How are you preparing for NUOVA’s program?
- In preparation for Opera NUOVA’s program, I have immersed myself in many different performance and training opportunities fortunately provided by university. I was given the opportunity to perform the following four roles in various opera scenes this year with the Queen’s Opera Ensemble: Carmen (Carmen - Bizet), Fidalma (Il Matrimonio Segreto - Cimarosa), Adalgisa (Norma – Bellini) and Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte - Mozart). I was also fortunate enough to have been cast in the role of Frenchie in Queen’s Musical Theatre’s Cabaret. In addition to these wonderful performance opportunities I’ve been provided with, I have been preparing for NUOVA through vocal lessons/coachings, musical theatre and dance courses and opera/music theatre masterclasses.
What attracts you to NUOVA’s programs? Why this year?
- I am attracted to NUOVA’s programs as I truly admire its intensive format and that all aspects of the program operate at an utmost professional standard. NUOVA provides so many amazing and useful tools within the arts from organization to vocal technique and I am so ecstatic to learn. I have had friends go through the NUOVA programs and they have nothing else to say but words of praise. I was especially attracted to NUOVA this year as it is the 20th anniversary season and I believe I will truly benefit from the entire experience in a large way.

Alexandra is entering her fourth year at Queen’s University where she is studying Voice - Performance (BMus). Alex has been involved in the performing arts for many years studying voice, musical theatre, piano, tap, jazz, hip-hop and classical ballet.
Selected credits include; Cabaret (Frenchie/Two Ladies) – Queen’s University, West Side Story in Concert (Consuelo) – Queen’s University, Handel’s Messiah (soloist) – Queen’s University, Dido and Aeneas (Sorceress) – Queen’s University, Curtains (Carmen Bernstein) – Bravo Academy, 13 the Musical (Lucy) – First Act Productions, The Merry Widow (Frou-Frou) – Opera York and the Canadian premieres of Going Under (Rebecca) – Colleen Dauncey/Akiva Romer-Segal and Anne and Gilbert (Josie Pye). Alexandra is the past recipient of notable awards including the Marilyn Peppiatt Theatre Award, Award for Best Direction (Sears Drama Festival), Fred Speer Scholarship (Kiwanis Festival) and the Maria Case Trophy Award (ORMTA). Alex is very excited to be a part of Opera NUOVA’s 20th anniversary season!
