Role(s) in this year's festival:
Répétiteur/Pianist: The Arctic Flute
Répétiteur/Pianist: Into the Woods
How are you preparing for NUOVA’s program?
- Preparing two shows is an exciting and a large undertaking as I plan the following weeks leading up to Nuova. Though they are very different scores, “Die Zauberflöte” and “Into the Woods” are both challenging in their own way. My preparation includes, not only practicing and listening to recordings, but also a lot of score studying, especially with the orchestral score as I modify the piano reduction to best imitate the orchestra.
What attracts you to NUOVA’s programs? Why this year?
- Opera NUOVA’s esteemed faculty is what initially drew me to the program. Additionally, having the opportunity to spend six weeks interacting and learning alongside some of Canada’s emerging singers and pianists is well worth while. This year seemed like the perfect year to do NUOVA as I am finishing an artist diploma at the Université de Montréal in collaborative piano and I can continue to solidify and enrich what I learned over the year during the intensive.

Pianist, Aude Urbancic is completing an artist diploma in collaborative piano at the University of Montreal under Francis Perron. She has completed a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Mount Alison University.
Aude performs both as a soloist, and a collaborative pianist from coast to coast. In 2015, she went on her second concert tour of the Maritimes and represented New Brunswick at the CFMTA national piano competition in Vancouver. In 2017, Aude performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ottawa Pops Orchestra.
She has played in many masterclasses including ones lead by Michael Kim, James Parker, Janina Fialkowska, Maneli Pirzadeh, Liz Upchurch and David Lutz and in 2017, attended the Stratford Summer Music Vocal Academy where she performed in masterclasses lead by Daniel Taylor, Michael Shade, Aline Kutan, Nathalie Paulin, Emily Hamper and Howard Dyck.
Aude has a particular passion for choral music and has worked as a rehearsal pianist under the direction of Alexander Shelley (National Arts Centre) and Laurence Ewashko (the Ewashko Singers). She has also one of the rehearsal pianists for the University of Montreal’s production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream under Jean-François Rivet.
Aude is looking forward to many exciting projects in the next year as she settles down in Ottawa.
