First time at NUOVA
How are you preparing for NUOVA’s program?
- It feels like cooking a big tasty opera-stew. First, I've got to get all the ingredients together: translations, historical context, garlic, notes & rhythms, character relationships, rosemary, etc.. Then it's time to throw them all into the pot, turn up the heat and start to see what comes out. It can be a bit nerve-wracking because you don't want to overcook your historical context or add in the notes & rhythms too late, but I'm sure it will be delicious in the end.
What attracts you to NUOVA’s programs? Why this year?
- Above all else, I am greatly looking forward to meeting young singers and leading creative artists from all over the continent. I just finished my undergraduate degree this spring, so it feels like the perfect time to dive into some further education. NUOVA's programs are highly renowned for their quality and intensity and I cannot wait to come together with everyone, learn from one another, and create some beautiful music theatre!
Hailing from Winnipeg, MB, John hasn't stopped singing since the toddler days of driving his family mad on road-trips. Fast forward to this spring, and John has earned himself a bachelor’s degree (University of Manitoba, vocal performance) and is very grateful to sing regularly on the musical theatre, choral and operatic stage. Deepest thanks to my teachers, fellow artists, friends and family for your support and inspiration. Recent credits include: Ensemble/Soloist; South Pacific (Rainbow Stage/WSO), Sarastro; Magic Flute (Manitoba Underground Opera), Lurch; Addams Family (Dry Cold Productions).
