How are you preparing for NUOVA’s program?

  • I'm preparing for this year's program by staying well caffeinated, growing out my hair, and working on my theatrical scream.

What attracts you to NUOVA’s programs? Why this year?

  • Singing in my home town is always a really special thing; I've been studying out of province for so long! NUOVA makes it additionally special because it is such a magical place of challenge and growth. I feel so lucky to get to be inspired by the incredible faculty and my colleagues at NUOVA, and then to share that work with the people who have supported my artistry right from the start.

Artist Bio

Sawyer Craig is a coloratura soprano hailing from Edmonton, Alberta. A love of singing led her from local choirs and festivals to pursue her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, which she received, with honours, in 2015. During her time in Vancouver, she discovered a passion for opera, and was lucky to be able to explore her craft through a number of different roles; a particular favourite was the chicken, Chocholka, in Janaček’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Most recently, she played the Sister (Nannerl) in the University of Manitoba’s Mozart: in the Key of Genius (a biography of Mozart’s life portrayed through excerpts from his operas). Sawyer is looking forward to entering the second year of her MMus degree at the University of Manitoba, studying under Monica Huisman.
