How are you preparing for NUOVA's program?
- Right now my goal is to learn my music as slowly and throughly as I can. I want a lot of time to grow into this score and be able to milk it for all its expressive potential. My study includes working from the orchestral score, musicological research, experimenting with tones on my electric keyboard, singing and playing, translating the libretto, getting friends to conduct me, and practicing on a daily basis. Working on small chunks of the score everyday allows me to do this in a very focused way.
What attracts you to NUOVA's programs? Why this year?
- As a returning NUOVA-ite I am well aware of the intensive artistic experience that NUOVA provides its participants and I fully embrace it as essential for my growth. The opportunity to continue to work some incredibly insightful teachers is amazing and I'm sure that my artistry will continue develop from the experience. Of course, I'm also excited to work on a score I've loved since I was five years old, and to act on stage for the first time!
Newly graduated from the University of Lethbridge, pianist Zain Solinski is thrilled to count himself among the returning NUOVAites in the program's 20th Anniversary Season. This year he has the opportunity to showcase his talents both on and off the stage: as a répétiteur/pianist for Die Zauberflöte, and in the role of accompanist Emmanuel "Manny" Weinstock in Masterclass. In September he will be returning to school, beginning his studies for a Master's Degree in Collaborative Piano at the University of Western.
