We are proud to present our artists hailing from Regina! 2021 Emerging Artist Mayson Sonntag, along with NUOVA Alumni Jamie Shaheen and Joshua Hendrickson will be joined by NUOVA Faculty Member Robert Ursan to present a dazzling combination of music theatre and opera.

Mayson Sonntag is a Regina-born performer. After 10 years of training in acting, singing, and dance with Do It With Class Young People’s Theatre under the direction of Rob Ursan, he was accepted and is currently enrolled in the prestigious Musical Theatre degree program at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Mayson will be returning to NUOVA is 2021 in the role of Harold Hill in The Music Man.
Jamie Shaheen is a Graduate of the University of Regina holding a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. In addition to her 15 years of dance training, 12 years of private vocal training, and 10 years as a member of Do It With Class Young People’s Theatre Company, Jamie has also performed with Opera NUOVA, Regina Summer Stage and Regina Lyric Musical Theatre. Jamie is currently enjoying teaching Musical Theatre, volunteering within the artistic community and looking after her two active toddlers: Kent and Gabe.
Joshua Hendricksen, bass-baritone, hails from Regina, Saskatchewan. Lauded for his captivating stage presence, vocal flexibility and warm, clear tone, he has made a name for himself as an engaging and sensitive musician. This season, Joshua was to present a solo recital Chiaroscuro: Songs of Light and Darkness, which would have featured newly commissioned Canadian works including several songs composed by Regina-based composer, Robert Ursan. Joshua is frequently seen performing as part of Regina’s Wascana Voices; as the younger half of the jazz duo, Hendricksen n’ Son; and collaborative pianist and choral accompanist.
Robert Ursan holds degrees in Voice, Piano, and Composition from Oberlin College (Ohio), The University of Toronto, and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow). Robert was the first recipient of the Luciano Pavarotti-Toronto Symphony Award while attending the Univeristy of Toronto, and subsequently performed with symphonies and opera companies across Canada and Britain. As a composer, he has written three operas, five musicals, two dozen theatre scores, three string quartets, a piano concerto, and many works for voice. Many of his students have appeared on stage at the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, Broadway and London’s West End. Currently, he is the Artistic Director of Do It With Class – Young People’s Theatre, with whom he has worked for the past twenty five years.
