Biography

A Member of the Order of Canada, John Fanning is a veteran of ten seasons at the Metropolitan Opera.  There he has worked with such renowned conductors as Sir Charles Mackerras, James Levine, Valery Gergiev, and Donald Runnicles. Mr. Fanning has appeared with all major Canadian opera companies and orchestras, as well as The English National Opera, Nantes/Anger Opera France, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Arizona Opera, Minnesota Opera, New York City Opera, Kentucky Opera, Long Beach (CA) Opera, Spoleto Festival and Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira in Rio de Janiero. He débuted at Carnegie Hall in Strauss' Daphné conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. John has been a regular faculty member at Opera NUOVA in Edmonton, Opera on the Avalon in St John's, Highlands Opera Studio in Haliburton and the Banff School. Featured as Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera both on the national tour and at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto, he has been the operatic voice of many commercials, starred in an episode of CBC's WIND AT MY BACK and was prominently featured in Norman Jewison's film, MOONSTRUCK.
