Biography
Winnipeg based mezzo soprano, Rosemarie van der Hooft enjoys a busy career as a professional soloist, voice teacher, yoga instructor and mindfulness facilitator.
Hailed as a versatile and expressive singer, she has enjoyed an international career performing masterpieces of the baroque alongside new and varied works of contemporary composers. Highlights include appearances with New York Collegium, Boston Handel and Haydn Society, Washington Bach Consort, American Bach Soloists, Apollo’s Fire, Seattle Baroque, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, SoundStreams Canada, Victoria Symphony, Richard Eaton Singers, Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Winnipeg Symphony New Music Festival and Aldeburgh Festival (England). Ms. van der Hooft is featured with the Aradia Baroque Ensemble on the Naxos label recording of Henry Purcell’s music for The Tempest. As a founding member of EMERADO, she regularly premieres the work of established Canadian and international composers, with Baritone, Mel Braun and Collaborative Pianist, Laura Loewen.
Ms. van der Hooft holds a Master of Music Performance from McGill University in Montreal. She has taught on the voice faculty of the University of Manitoba and Canadian Mennonite University and is in frequent demand as a clinician and adjudicator. She established and co-directed the Professor Bach Project, a mentoring program for young singers and instrumentalists.
In 2019, Rosemarie established Blue Rose Yoga and Voice, and currently works as a voice teacher and wellness coach, including mindfulness practices and yoga. She offers in-person and online yoga classes, designed especially for singers. Rosemarie has completed 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with additional courses in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with Kellie Dearman, Yoga for Nervous System Resilience with Kristine Kaoveri Weber and Yoga and Functional Anatomy with Tiffany Criukshank. She is also certified as a facilitator of the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course with training from the Mindfulness Centre in Toronto.
