Libretto By W.S. Gilbert
Composed by Arthur Sullivan
February 22th – 26th, 2017
The Capitol Theatre at Fort Edmonton Park
Directed by Kim Mattice Wanat
A Co-production with

Come aboard the HMS Pinafore, a sassy ship of particular character in Her Majesty’s Navy, where an inept Admiral who has never been upon the ocean, sets sail “over the bright blue sea”. Led by the beloved Captain Corcoran, the proud sailors service the ship, and one, the handsome Ralph, dreams of love. He’s enamoured with the beautiful Josephine, the captain’s daughter, who is, of course, betrothed to the hapless Admiral, but pines for the humble seaman. However it’s Gilbert and Sullivan, and it wouldn’t continue without a twist, another twist and a topsy turvy climax, where it all ends with “joy and rapture unforeseen”.
Drawing on the success of Gilbert and Sullivan productions during the 2015 and 2016 Opera NUOVA Festivals, Fort Edmonton Park and Opera NUOVA are teaming up to present this period inspired piece in the beauty of a period inspired setting.
