How are you preparing for NUOVA’s program?
I am currently finishing my second year at University of Alberta, and I am sponging up as much as I can before the end of the semester. To prepare for NUOVA's "The Consul", I am studying the music, story, and characters. Before delving into the score, I read the libretto and watched a production of it online. Learning the music has been challenging, yet rewarding as it is so well-crafted. This opera is intense and weighs heavily, but it is an important story to tell and I am grateful to be a part of it.
What attracts you to NUOVA’s programs? Why this year?
What attracts me to NUOVA is the professional experience and well-rounded curriculum that it offers its participants. The program also gives us the opportunity to apply our knowledge and skill to a fully-staged show, which I appreciate. Having a safe place to learn about yourself as a young artist is invaluable, and I am looking forward to learning and growing from the faculty and other participants this summer. The pandemic has been difficult and without many performance opportunities. I am so excited to finally (hopefully) have a live audience and be on the stage again!
Artist Bio
Alla is thrilled to join Opera NUOVA for the first time this year! She discovered her love of singing at an early age through singing with choirs, which lead her to pursue a Bachelor of Music at the University of Alberta. Currently finishing her second year, she is loving being fully immersed in all things music. Selected opera credits include Mrs. Northwind in The Enchanted Pig, Chorus in Monsieur Choufleuri (UofA Opera Workshop), and Spirit 1 in Magic Flute (Edmonton Opera). When Alla is not singing, you can find her trying new teas and spending time with her cat.
