Role(s) in this year's festival:
Magda Sorel: "The Consul"
have been preparing for NUOVA's program by listening, learning and reading the score for Menotti's "The Consul." This repertoire is unlike anything I have ever sung before, so it has been a challenge becoming comfortable with the role of Magda Sorel. It has been a journey, learning this role and how it fits within my body and voice. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to sing repertoire that is foreign to me and I will continue to prepare for the role through musical self-exploration!
At the University of Western Ontario, I attended a short concert performed by some alumni of Opera NUOVA. I was introduced to the values and goals of the program. As a young artist, I related to these goals through my aspirations. I knew Opera NUOVA would be the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into opera and the art. Of course, I am beyond excited to be attending the program this summer and I am hopeful that performing will become more and more accessible as COVID-19 becomes a thing of the past.
