Role(s) in this year's festival:
Vera Boronel: "The Consul"
Ensemble: "Tuck Everlasting"
To prepare for this year's NUOVA program, I hope to spend the next few months working on my repertoire while at school and applying everything I am learning in my courses to my development!
Given the circumstances of the last few years, I have truly missed the sense of passion and collaboration musicians share when working towards a production. With NUOVA, I have the opportunity to further progress as a vocalist while being able to work with like-minded musicians!
Born and raised in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, Briana Sutherland grew up in a nurturing music community which fueled her passion as a musician and mezzo-soprano. Some of her accomplishments include being a two-time winner of the Porcupine Music Festival de Musique Overall Vocalist Plaque and the recipient of awards such as the Kwasnika Award, the Board of Governors Music Scholarship, and the Shania Twain Scholarship. Her most recent performances include being a featured soloist with the Timmins Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, and participating as a soloist and chorister for both the Ontario Youth Choir and Western University’s Les Choristes. Additionally, Briana has collaborated as a Vocalist with Sonic Democracy for the release of their studio album “Crossroads & Dreamlands” and performances at the Stars and Thunder music festival. Currently, Briana is preparing to perform as a soloist and chorus member in Western University’s Opera Gala while pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with an honours specialization in voice performance under the direction of Jackalyn Short at the Don Wright Faculty of Music.
