Role(s) in this year's festival:
Vera Boronel: "The Consul"
Ensemble: "Tuck Everlasting"
I am preparing for NUOVA by really living with the music as I learn it and letting myself get excited. Doing the dishes? Listening to The Consul. Walking to school? Listening to Tuck Everlasting.
I was attracted to NUOVA because it had drawn in so many of my fantastic peers over the years that I just wanted to know what I was missing out on! NUOVA seems to foster suck a tight knit community among its musicians and I can't wait to experience that.
Mezzo-Soprano Janaki Butterworth has just graduated from Western University with a Bachelor of Music in Voice performance. She caught the performance bug young, performing in her first musical, Cats, at the age of seven. She has not stopped performing since. In 2013-14 she attended the Oberstufenrealgymnasium der Wiener Sängerknaben in Vienna, where she had the opportunity to play Rosa in the children’s opera, Erwin das Naturtalent, alongside the Vienna Boy’s Choir and Vienna Volksoper. From 2014-17 she trained with The Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede in her hometown of Calgary, where she was able to hone her dancing and vocal skills while performing in the annual Grandstand Show. In 2017, she attended the Cowtown Summer Opera Academy in Calgary. While studying at Western University, she performed in the musicals Chicago, and Heather’s: The Musical with Theatre Western and Kings Players respectively. She is excited to share some fun music with you this year at NUOVA!
