During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, composers wrote music to embellish existing poetry. These songs were written for voice with piano accompaniment. Today these beautiful pieces allow listeners to experience the beauty and diversity of the voice as they bring some of the world’s greatest poetry to life. Each concert in this series will have a theme such as French Melodie, German Lieder or Italian Romanza, and will feature a slideshow of artwork that each singer has chosen to accompany the song cycle.

Over the past 15 years Opera NUOVA has produced a plethora of operas. This splendid concert will showcase staged highlights from some of the lesser known operas and will be sung in English to make this evening an opportunity to experience these great operas in the vernacular.
